Inspired by China's oldest fortified city walls and the Great Wall, one defines walls of this kind as protection, separation, and isolation. In the contemporary context, we also see them as a historical site, tourism destination, a place where we need to preserve its past. Have we questioned the ideas that give meaning to these structures and its relationship to power? Wall Collision is a series of video performances of the artist's body colliding and attempting to break these meanings. In Wall Collision (San Juan, Puerto Rico), the artist uses her body to attempt to run and break the wall to decolonize its colonial history and experience. It is an act of resistance; an act of dismantling a colonial system and memory.
