How [Not] To Assimilate is a mediated and performative approach in response towards the diasporic alienation in the wake of a disaster. My work is structured on a creative exploration to challenge the US media’s disaster narrative to turn attention to the contemporary situation of Puerto Rico, Post-Maria. Using the digital medium as a discursive element as a way to engage in a direct confrontation with images of destruction and suffering circulated through the news media, the work faces on a series of footage that performs and spreads poetic messages of resistance towards the colonial condition of the island.
